Look at Your Life from This Interesting Perspective

Look at Your Life from This Interesting Perspective -christyfitzwater.com

I slept nary a wink the other night, and siphoning coffee from the pot was not cutting the kind of tired I was feeling. I was one step away from a bad mood, so I went downstairs and got cozy on the left-hand side of the old couch we bought before Jayme was born. Thatā€™s where I snuggle under a quilt to read the Bible every morning, except that morning I knew better than to include the quilt.

I read Psalm 21, which talks about the king.

O LORD, the king rejoices in your strength.

How great is his joy in the victories you give!

You have granted him the desire of his heart

and have not withheld the request of his lips.

Psalm 21:1-2 (NIV)

I looked to see who wrote the psalm. It was David.

Usually when someone talks about himself in third person, we whistle and make a you-should-be-admitted face. But in Psalm 21 we see David referring to ā€œthe kingā€. I find myself whispering, David, thatā€™s you.

It strikes me as an intriguing exercise, to pull away and talk about what the Lord has done in our lives as a third person. It forces a unique perspective.

If I were to write the same way, it would look like this:

A song of Christy

O LORD, the 46-year-old Montana woman has found great joy

in meeting with you daily on the old couch.

You welcomed her with rich blessings

and placed an incredible husband in place to love her.

The mother of two celebrates

raising two kids under your precepts.

She asked you if she might write Bible studies for people some day,

and you said yes.

You gave her a website.

You have made her glad she knows you.

See? How cool is that?

Your turn. On the top of a piece of paper, write ā€œA psalm of ______(insert your name).ā€ (And don’t you want to share one of your third-person statements of thankfulness with the rest of us? We’d love to here what the Lord has done in your life.)

I’ve just found your blog an hr ago and already enjoy the few articles I just read (I shared on fb “the get rich scheme that is for real). So encouraging, but I must tear myself from here for now to tend to the humble abode that He’s blessed me with.
