The Importance of Being Liked

The Importance of Being Liked -christyfitzwater.com

Will you pause for a minute and enjoy this beautiful picture of my mom’s front room? My daughter snapped this picture when we went for a visit a few weeks ago. She says her grandma’s house is magazine worthy. Doesn’t it make you want to find a book and a cup of coffee, so you can read in that big chair?

It’s a warm and inviting house because my mom is a warm and inviting person.

It’s a place where I can walk in and know she likes me.

In Proverbs 19:11 we read:

A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.

Besides my mom, there are many wise and patient people in my life who look happy to see me every time I come their way. They are the ones who overlook and overlook and overlook the offensive parts of me. Then the next day they do it again.

One time I sat across from a woman who shared a painful story of relationship heartache with me.

It’s really painful to find out someone just doesn’t like you, she said.

Ever since that conversation, I’ve been more aware of the great value in friends and family who simply enjoy who I am as a person, despite my shortcomings.

Who are the people in your life whom you can always count on to like you?

I have one precious friend who is an “overlooker”. Won’t you click here to join me at Club 31 Women, to read about the gift my friend gave me and the power your own words hold in the lives of others.
