Your Life -A Party Just Starting

The party starts when you see what God can do with your life. -christyfitzwater.com

Dear friends,

Today is my birthday! The big four-six, and you should know I’m a little ridiculous on the inside about the whole birthday thing. It’s like when I was six years old I stopped maturing and still jump up and down over cake and presents.

Presents!

I was laughing at myself the other day, because someone asked how old I was going to be.

I had to stop and think about it, because I’ve been saying to myself “I’m 45-and-a-half” and doing that rounding up to the new age like small children do. I actually thought myself into the age of 46 before I ever got there. (Who does that?)

I’m excited to get older, because I’m one year closer to being with Jesus. (Don’t you know this life is often like waiting at the DMV, and we just want to be done with it and get home.)

Despite that longing for heaven, I’m looking forward to age 46, because I feel like I have just started living the life God has been shaping me for, as if all this time has been a warm up and now I’m really getting going.

Do you know when I was in middle school I sent in an article to Reader’s Digest because I wanted to be a writer, but I never heard back from them. And now look at me all writing a blog and sharing the good news of Jesus and hope. Your encouraging notes to me stack up, and it feels like a dream come true that I can express my walk with God in words and somehow be a part of what he is doing in your story.

And I’m more swoony over my husband right now than I ever have been. I’ve found a new romance in him over the last few years, as we both share the gospel together and get all excited over Saturday waffles, as we talk about what God is doing around us and through us. Sigh.

I can see God working, and that makes me look at age 46 as a new adventure.

How will God transform my soul this next year?

How will God use my humble story for his kingdom this next year?

How will God reveal his love, generosity, and power in my life this next year?

Won’t you please celebrate my birthday with me? You NEED to eat cake or at least a donut or some sort of sugar-covered gluten, if you care about me at all. (Wink, wink.)

And won’t you follow my lead and celebrate your life? The Creator God loves you and wants you to join him in his work, and the faster you obey and seek him, the bigger and more adventurous his work in you and through you will be.

Consider Jesus’ story about those who invest what he has given them in this life:

For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance… (Matthew 25:29 NIV)

That means one year obedient and faithful -the next year abundance of influence and effectiveness. Every birthday more exciting and rich than the one before, despite diminishing eyesight and slowing metabolism.

We’re just getting started!

Happy , happy birthday! I look forward to birthdays too and often get ahead of myself. I’ll be thinking I’m nearly 54, so when I get to 54 in a couple weeks I have to think about it…am I 54 or 55? I hope you have a glorious day.

  6. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Your ministry is a blessing to me. Many blessings to you this year!

  7. Happy Birthday Christy! I just love your enthusiasm for life as well as birthdays. I am over 70 now and home is definitely in sight. I can hardly wait to see my Savior. Perhaps tonight He will come for us.
