My Little Secret on Being a Rock

In high school I worked really hard to do pretty well. My report card (back in the days when it was actually a card someone wrote on with a pen) had a few A’s, always some B’s, and an occasional C in math or science or both.

But I hung out with the smart kids.

At graduation, it was my friends who got up to give the speeches. They were the ones with AP classes under their belts that took their GPA’s over 4.0. And I think I looked pretty smart hanging out with that crowd.

In the week my dad died, someone said to me, You’re such a rock.

So here’s my secret, like in high school:

I’m not a rock. I just hang out with One.

One of my favorite songs is from the 90’s by Aaron Jeoffrey (I make no apologies for loving the music of my generation, although the music video makes me cringe more than a little.) It’s called I Go to The Rock, and one of the lines says this:

“I run to the mountain, and the mountain stands by me.”

Not hard for this Montana girl to imagine going to a mountain, when my patio door opens up to the Rockies.

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains –where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2 NIV)

Do you understand what I’m saying?

I’M NOT STRONG. I just associate with Strong.

You have to get in with the right person.
