A Most Daring Prayer

I say it to my coffee in the morning, Do something. A small idolatry –hoping to get all strength for living out of 12 ounces of caffeine.

Try this daring prayer and see what happens. -christyfitzwater.com

God says to his people, “Bring in your idols.” And he demands of these idols, these 12 ounces of god, “Do something.” (Isaiah 41:22, 23 NIV)

Except idols don’t do anything. They just sit there and disappoint us time and again. Disappoint us around 10:00 when the caffeine wears off.

I’m thinking about the futility of asking our idols to do something for us, when it occurs to me the opposite is true. What daring prayer should we say to a real God? A real one –too big to sit on a shelf or to fill a coffee cup.

Do something.

God wants to do something. Like in the beginning when the Spirit of God hovered over the waters, I believe the Spirit hovers over our day –waiting for us to ask. Waiting for us to hope for something.

We love a God who created verbs.

Restoring, transferring, healing, rescuing, purifying. He does something when we ask –never just sits there.

So I think it’s a good morning prayer for women who are tired or discouraged or sad, to wake up and say three words over and over.

Do something, Lord.

Then  do what my dad always recommended, Hide and wait.

    Simply powerful, Christy…

  2. I love this! As I like to remind myself lately, “His arm is not too short!” Thanks for this timely reminder as I wait on the Lord today.

    1. Now you’ve encouraged me. I need the strong right arm of the Lord to help me through this time.
