Could Someone Please Orchestrate Your Life

Could Someone Please Orchestrate Your Life -christyfitzwater.com

It’s time for a fun Mexican food day in my Spanish class, so I’m having Qdoba catered during the lunch hour. But do you know that I almost broke out into hives just planning this? My administrative skills: 0. I’m trying not to panic that I’ve probably messed up some detail.

My students wish we could take a trip to a Spanish-speaking country, but can you imagine? I think that if orchestrating one catered meal makes me lose sleep, probably I’m not the ideal person to make travel arrangements out of the country for a group of high school students.

Some of you are run-the-whole-world kind of people. You can host an event for 157 guests with one hand tied behind your back. That is not me. In fact, when my detail-oriented daughter left for college, I said, “But who’s going to take care of us now?”

So I found John the Baptist’s proclamation about Jesus especially comforting yesterday morning:

The one who comes from above is above all.

He even repeats himself:

The one who comes from heaven is above all. (John 3:31 NIV)

I leaned back in my chair and said, “Phew. Yes, let Jesus be above all. I do not want that job.”

I was telling my husband that I could only take students on a big trip if I could hand over all the administrative details to someone amazing, like my friend who keeps a spiral notebook and never forgets anything important. And on a much greater scale, I do not want to be responsible for my entire life. I want someone else to be in charge. Gladly, I tell you. I will gladly let someone else worry about logistics and mastermind the details.

I want to say, “Just tell me where to go next, Lord.” He can man the clipboard.

  1. Ha! I so love the details but get me in front of a group of teenagers and I would most likely want to crawl into a hole. I love that Jesus made us all with our own unique gifts. I would gladly be your planning partner. 😉

    1. Okay, I’m going to remember that if your kids end up in my Spanish class one of these days!!

  2. Thank the Lord for detail oriented people to balance out us forgetful types!
